Introduction to a New Approach Directive pertaining to the safety of machines
Seminars24th September 2008 - The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development (MoERD), within the EU Twinning Project for strengthening capacities of the MoERD in trade policy formulation, trade negotiations, implementation of trade policies and international trade agreements formulation, … A two day seminar was held (17th and 18th September) at the premises of the Ministry on the EU Directive on safety of machinery – Machinery directive – 98/37/EC, that is its revised version 2006/42/EC.
Jelena Popović, an Assistant Minister of Economy and Regional Development, opened the seminar together with Martin Reisser, the Twinning Adviser for the Project for strengthening capacities of the MoERD in trade policy formulation, trade negotiations, implementation of trade policies and international trade agreements formulation, and the seminar was attended by Borislava Jakšić, MSc, from the Sector for competition and quality infrastructure within the MoERD, and Dušan Vučković.
Additionally, the seminar was attended by the representatives of competent ministries, business community and quality infrastructure institutions.
Dr Dejan Krnjaić, the Director of the Accreditation Board of Serbia, Radivoje Nikoličić, the Assistant Director for Development and Quality, and Milica Jovčić, MSc, Accreditation Manager, attended the seminar on behalf of the Accreditation Board of Serbia.
The present participants were introduced to the Plan of the Ministry of Economy and Regional Development to form a separate Working Group composed of all interest groups (competent ministries, business community, quality infrastructure institutions), whose aim is to transpose the said directive to meet the obligations arising from the National Programme for Integration of Serbia into the European Union (NPI), with special emphasis on the free movement of goods.
The experts (Messrs Harald Riekeles, Edwin Schmitt and Stephan Helmprobst) introduced the present participants to the principles of the New Approach and basic requirements of the Directive. After the basic information had been provided, a discussion was opened with the aim of introducing the present participants to the experiences of other countries in the process of transposing the Directive and the role of all stakeholders during its implementation.
At the end of the seminar the participants agreed that the activities related to the education of all interested parties should continue so that all of the said parties would be able to make an adequate contribution.
